Find My Ride
Project Overview:
Find My Ride (FMR) is an online application that enables users or someone acting on their behalf (e.g., a family member or transportation staff member) to make a single application for the most prevalent transportation assistance programs in Pennsylvania. Users answer a series of basic questions about their transportation needs, and the application automatically adds the requirements of those programs for which an applicant is eligible. The completed application is then routed to the local providers of those programs.
Challenges:
This project required a cycle of updates and rebuilds on several wire-frames, creation of new wire-frames as the product expanded, and detailed communication with stakeholders and developers. As we tackled accessibility, I used both manual/visual testing and Level Access software to assess needs and reviewed those needs with stakeholders and team members. Those actionable items were prioritized to be in scope with statewide initiatives for accessibility.
After several rounds of updates I organized and facilitated a user test group to identify choke points and trouble spots. From this testing I compiled a detailed report for presentation to the team and additional updates were performed as needed. During this project I also managed updates to Figma resources and created graphic assets when requested by developers.
Rewards:
The success of this project allows for more equitable and easy access for Pennsylvanians to find and utilize services in their cities and counties.
Highway Safety Improvement Program
Project Overview:
The Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) is intended to bring several resources and functionalities already used across several assets and access points to one centralized location. To improve and streamline the application process and create a toolkit for many other daily requirements.
Challenges:
The primary challenge to this product was leveraging the Keystone Design System against the wide scope of requirements. Using the KDS and a bit of creativity, I was able to create a clean aesthetic that put user needs at the front of the project.
Rewards:
Being on the ground floor of a project is always a great experience. Being able to apply my expertise and design direction was fulfilling.
Bad Dwarf Games
Project Overview:
Bad Dwarf Games is a start-up game company that is currently in development and financing stages. They plan to offer a wide range of RPG card and board games.
Challenges:
Creating a visual brand that pulls from a wide scope of gaming genres and bridging off of that "look and feel" to create a design system that would scale as the company and their products grow.
Rewards:
I get to design cool images and stuff for a gaming company! How cool is that?!
Total Visibility: FNR/RMS
Project Overview:
Total Visibility is an emergency management software suite that is designed for local and state governments to identify, catalog, and assist individuals with access and functional needs (AFN) during disasters, evacuations, or severe incidents.
The suite has two modules. Functional Needs Registry (FNR) and Resource Management System (RMS). The FNR allows constituents to register themselves or another so that local emergency response can accommodate any special needs (i.e. medical equipment needs, support animals, etc.)
Challenges:
This was a very interesting project to be sure. My primary goal was to update and modernize the UX/UI for the products. My secondary goals were to explore the full capabilities and scalability of both the FNR and RMS, and work with the developers to maximize those potentials. Over the course of my time on this project I was able to create a well branded product that was standardized, while retaining its scalability for clients across multiple domains. I created documentation for both developers and clients. I conducted training sessions for the products, and created a web-based "how to" for clients to reference.
Rewards:
Helping local and state governments assist their constituencies and be better prepared in case of disasters or emergencies. Creating an accessible product for families and care-providers to register and have a little more piece-of-mind. Getting to travel for training sessions and engage with first responders learning the system.
